Digital Construction


We live in the digital age.

Yet how much of the technologies are used by all of us to improve the way we live and work in the buildings? In my opinion - too little.

Research and case studies have demonstrated the various benefits of using new technologies in the construction field. However, there is still limited adoption in small buildings, especially family housing.

Commonly, I hear the following doubts:

    • "Is there any real benefit? We prefer the traditional approach."
    • "It's too expensive."
    • "It's too difficult."

But is that really true?

At smallbim.com I will show you that neither is true, everybody can do it and usually without any additional cost. 

Building a house during the Pandemic and War


Building my own house had been a long-held dream. Construction began in 2021, amidst a pandemic that disrupted supply chains, including building materials, and led to skyrocketing prices. Then, in 2022, the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began, causing even more challenges. 

This was, of course, not planned.

It was a stressful time, but having more information than the typical person building a house allowed me to control the construction process more and make better decisions. After one year of construction, we were able to move in.

About Janis Berkis

I live with my family in the small picturesque town of Sigulda, Latvia.
I am also the owner of ITED, a business where we use different technologies to bring value to the construction industry, primarily for large clients and buildings. I have a background in construction and a passion for new tech, as well as a commitment to sharing knowledge with others through teaching in universities, giving lectures, and providing training.
